Welcome to Zagreb

2016, April, 24th-30th

Description of the Learning, Teaching and Training activity in Croatia

Groups of pupils and teachers from partner schools met in Croatia. They were well prepared for collaboration.

In Croatia students firstly presented their school, hobby clubs and school life.

The celebration of Europe Day 2016: National Costume Design - Workshop&Fashion Show.

The main idea was to inspire and motivate students to create 6 representative dresses of Estonia, Finland, Spain, Croatia, Germany and the European Union. (Enter the Full-Screen Mode)

After that students had a Debate activity – Comparison of School Systems.
All students filled online questionnaire about the subject. An Estonian student has presented the poll results at the beginning of the debate and German pupils presented the model of their career counseling, after which students discussed it and made conclusions in mixed groups – comparing the school systems and choosing the best models.

A comparative exhibition of Math textbooks and assessments, school systems and a debate about it, was organized for teachers in our school. The partners collected the materials in their countries and brought them along to Croatia.
In Technical Museum Nikola Tesla each country team presented one partner-country's scientist from STEM field. All the tasks and presentations had been arranged before, so the activity in the museum was very successful. From that activity a greater cooperation with Nikola Tesla Technical Museum was born – our students were repeatedly invited by the Museum to perform a sketch about Tesla' s life and work, recorded and published by the media (national TV-Zagrebačka panorama, newspapers etc.).

The students participated in a workshop „A Demystification of a TV Studio“ in Graphic School Zagreb. The objective was to show the process of production and postproduction of a TV show to the students.

The teachers were guests in the studio, where they had a discussion about their overview of the whole project. They pointed out the advantages of Erasmus project and talked about a greater need of connection among the countries in EU in general, about the need to improve educational systems, the ways of career guidance, vocational education, promotion of STEM vocations which are in deficit in Europe, and other useful subjects for EU in general. Unfortunately, due to some technical problems during the discussion, we do not have an audio recording of this activity.
The participants visited Vocational School Vice Vlatkovića in Zadar, as one of the best practice in Croatia. They've seen different vocational programs, participated in a workshop - Electronic candle led by the German team. Afterwards, they had a workshop in Saltwork Nin, about biodiversity. This visit was also an opportunity for little hiking, doing sports together etc.
Zagreb was presented to students through "Photo game"small tasks in certain city points – it was organized in small international groups of students, guided by our students.
We visited Rimac Automobili Company - the visit was an extension to a visit to a vocational school in Zadar, where electrical car maintenance programs are taught.  Students' meeting gave them a good entrepreneurial experience.
In Croatian Employment Service a presentation was given - about career guidance model, CISOK centers and Youth Guarantee EU program, that presents a new approach to unemployment of young people. It tries to activate them in labor market before 25.
At URIHO - an institution for professional rehabilitation and employment of disabled persons in Zagreb - we had a presentation about URIHO’s field of work. Picture book “Leo' s adventures” made in cooperation of our school Zapruđe preschool was presented there, too. The aim was to sensitize children for people with disabilities. Students filled worksheets for portfolios. We have visited URIHO’s facilities, too.
In our school, the partners could see an extraordinary exhibition "A strolling Through Europe - one classroom, one EU country“, where our students presented EU countries through art, music, dance, food…
Per Aspera  Ad Astra - A performance given by studens from Elementary Music School Rudolf Matz and Elementary School of ballet and Contemporary  Dance
In House of Europe in Zagreb Europe Day was celebrated by a workshop and fashion show "National Costumes Design“, in cooperation with Highschool for Fashion and Design. In presence of ambassadors, consuls, city representatives and media, the mobility in Croatia was closed with a very nice ceremony
CONCLUSION

Many students and teachers of our school participated in this project – some of the activities included students in lower grades, higher grades and all of their teachers.
In good cooperation with Zagreb National Tourist Board, we got a great official tourist guide, we managed to get symbolic presents for the partners and to present our city and country in an impressive and atractive way. Zadar visit was the same.

Thanks to an exceptional engagement of our project team, we managed to obtain many extra resources – different services, free tickets (museums, theatres, Rimac Automobili, Solana Nin…), supported meals in student canteen, free show given by Rudolf Matz Music School Rudolf Matz and School for Ballet and Contemporary Dance and free of charge theatre hall to present the show in.

Through this mobility, both teachers and pupils developed communication skills, foreign language skills and learned to behave in new situations. Partners learned about each others’ nature, culture, economy and school life. Non-formal and informal learning are important elements in the learning process and are effective instruments for inspiring studies, developing lifelong learning for future careers and promoting the social inclusion of people.

The aims of the meeting were strictly connected with the aims of the whole project.
